Modeling Clay For Jewellery Making?
I have recently purchased modelling clay with the idea of making my own clay jewellery. But now, after reading more about clay jewellery, I fear I have the wrong type of clay. Is it necessary to use Sculpey/Polymer clay for jewellery? How can I make the most of the modelling clay that i have? Also, is there a technique to harden the clay apart from baking? Is sun-drying helpful?
It depends on the clay. There are oil based modeling clays that are meant to NEVER harden, that's the whole point.
If it's natural clay, it has to be fired in a kiln at high temperature, way higher than a cooking oven. You will have to go to a ceramics studio to get it fired. If you want the beads glazed, you will need a special set-up, as the glaze will make the beads stick together.
Look at what the package says.
If you want to work at home with no special equipment, then sculpey, fimo, or other polymer clays are best. Check the instructions on the package before you buy it.
